The Hollywood Reporter broke news that Woody Harrelson, of True Detective and Zombieland fame (or Cheers, depending on how far back you wanna go), has scooped up the main human role in Fox’s next Planet of the Apes installment titled War for the Planet of the Apes.
Plot details are still hush hush, but Woody will play a villain name The Colonel. Hopefully War for the Planet of the Apes will not follow the same storyline as Battle for the Planet of the Apes, which was easily the worst film of the original Apes franchise.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves will return to direct the next installment along with screenwriter Mark Bomback.
War for the Planet of the Apes will continue the story of Caesar, who is the leader of the apes, and will also see the return of Andy Serkis, who played Caesar with the aid of motion capture.
Harrelson, who has been having a bit of a renaissance recently with great performances in True Detective and Hunger Games, will also be starring as President Lyndon B Johnson in the upcoming biopic LBJ.
