The first official look at Independence Day: Resurgence is here and it has got all your favorites from the first film, except for one notable exception… where the hell is Will Smith?
Taking place years after ID4, the Earth is once again under threat of attack from hostile aliens. Roland Emmerich is back in the director’s chair with Jeff Goldblum, Bill Paxton, and Vivica A. Fox all returning to their roles, but not Will Smith. Turns out Emmerich wrote Steven Hiller (Will Smith) out of the sequel and War of 1996 will give you the details on why. Warning: it’s contains spoilers about Resurgence. In Will’s place it looks like we’re getting Liam Hemsworth, and we’re not too sure we’re happy with the trade-off.
According to sources online (Facebook) an anonymous cinema employee shared an IMAX digital file of the trailer online, so we’re getting treated to this a lot earlier than expected. We would imagine they were planned on premiering this at Star Wars: The Force Awakens in a couple of days.
Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters June 24, 2016.
