Star Wars: The Force Awakens just set the all time ticket sales record in less than 24 hours on it’s opening day according to Fandango. The prior record was held by The Hunger Games, but Star Wars just shattered it eight times over. The traffic on Fandango’s site surged over 7 times its peak level, causing many crashes for buyers online.
“This is an extraordinary time for the industry, which experienced unprecedented ticketing demand last night for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,The enthusiasm for this year’s most anticipated movie is out of this world and we expect it to continue all the way to its debut on Dec. 18.”
Many IMAX screenings are already sold out and to keep up with demand, theaters are adding in new show times. According to movietickets.com The Force Awakens is the number 1 selling film online with 95% of sales over the last 24 hours, and like Fandango, it also crashed the site for many buyers.
The first official full-length trailer made it’s television debut on Monday Night Football, as well as right here on Nothing Uncut. The trailer has already amast 14 million views on the Star Wars YouTube channel… which honestly, for less than 24 hours, is insane.
With momentum like this, it’s easy to say that The Force Awakens will annihilate box office records come Dec 18th, until then you’ll have to just keep watching the trailer like some starved junkie waiting for his/her fix.
