Rumors about Tarantino’s films being connected have been floating around for years in the form of fan theories and speculation.
Two primary examples that fuel these ideas are that Vic Vega from Reservoir Dogs and Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction are actually brothers or Lee Donowitz from True Romance and Donnie Donowitz from Inglorious Basterds are father and son. Still, with all this evidence, the director has never come out and stated that there is a shared universe to his films, that is until now.
Tarantino recently confirmed on The Project that indeed his films are connected through the same universe. Some characters exist in a “realer than real” universe while watching other characters exist in a movie universe.
Tarantino stated, “So From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill, they all take place in this special movie universe, So when all the characters of Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction, when they go to the movies, Kill Bill is what they go to see. From Dusk Till Dawn is what they see.”
Dazed Magazine demonstrated this with an excellent example of Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) in Pulp Fiction. During dinner at Jack Rabbit Slim’s, the plot of her TV pilot she describes to Vincent Vega has a lot of similarities to Kill Bill.
Quentin has been very vocal about his desire to only make two more movies, one of which better be Kill Bill 3 and hopefully the other a horror movie. With this limited window to expand this so-called universe, let’s hope he does a good job of tying his body of work together.
