The Muppets are returning to primetime with a new docu—style TV show following the troupe’s personal lives, both on and off screen. During promotion for the new series, two of its biggest stars held a press conference and announced some very unsettling news.
Joining executive producers Bill Prady and Bob Kushell, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy fielded questions about The Muppets and Piggy’s new late-night talk show Up Late with Miss Piggy, when tensions hit an all time high, forcing the couple to break the news.
“Piggy and I have gone our separate ways romantically,” said Kermit. He then went on to announce he’d still be an executive producer for Piggy’s new show, despite the breakup. “It can be tough to work with your ex. It can be tough to be the executive producer on your ex’s late-night TV show, especially when your ex is a pig. I don’t know whether any of you have ever dated pigs.”
Piggy also had some words to say about the split “I have no problem working with my ex, okay? It’s fine. It’s totally healed. Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens.”
The official statement was released below:
“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter … unless we get the right offer. Thank you for your understanding.”
Despite the how fresh the wounds of this breakup seem to be, Kermit has been seen dating his new girlfriend Denise, a marketing exec at ABC. While Piggy has also wasted no time and has been spotted dating Topher Grace from That ’70s Show.
