The Sons of Anarchy will ride once more… kind of.
Rival biker gang, The Mayans, who were sometimes on the side of SAMCRO (and sometimes not) are looking to get their own show. Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is developing a possible spinoff to the epic biker drama that ran for 7 seasons and ended last year with record numbers.
The Mayans and their president Marcus Alvarez (played by Emilio Rivera) were the most interesting gang besides the Sons of Anarchy and the potential for an amazing show is extremely high. Sadly, Sutter isn’t releasing many details about the project, so we’re still not sure when the show will take place and if characters from Sons of Anarchy will be making appearances.
Sutter is currently gearing up to release his new medieval drama The Bastard Executioner, which premieres Sept. 15 with a 2-hour long episode (and we can’t wait to watch it).
With The Bastard Executioner launching and Sutter writing, producing, directing, and acting… one wonders how much time he’ll have to develop the Sons of Anarchy spinoff. From the sound of things, it may be a while before we see The Mayans back in action.
After creating The Shield (one of the greatest shows in television history) and then following it up with Sons of Anarchy, it’s seems like Sutter can do no wrong. My worry is that he will over extend himself and we’ll get a mediocre show – or he’ll put The Mayans on the back burner – or he’ll pass it off to someone else, all of which would stink.
