Marvel’s hit TV series Daredevil is headed into its second season on Netflix streaming. The show has been widely successful and for good reason, it’s excellent. It looks like it’s about to get even better. Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Fury, Wolf of Wall Street) will be joining season two as Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher.
The Punisher has always been hugely popular with comic book fans and is now finally going to be reintroduced back into the Marvel universe through the Daredevil series. The Punisher is known as a rogue vigilante who wants to rid NYC of crime, sometimes even going a little over the top with it (he likes to kill people).
Prior portrayals of Frank Castle have been a bit lack-luster (sorry Dolph Lundgren) but this time I think Marvel crushed it with their casting choice. Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, had this to say about Bernthal.
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.” (Source)
Marvel didn’t comment on whether The Punisher and Daredevil would be friends in the upcoming season, but if the bullet holes scattered throughout the the newly released logo are any indicator, the two will probably bump heads. In the past, both of them have always had a tremulous relationship, but ended up helping each other out eventually. The potential for a twisted and compelling storyline for the next chapter of Daredevil is at an all time high.
Just in case you’re not on board yet, the first season of Daredevil is available to watch on Netflix right now. If you’re like us, you’ll binge watch it in no time. Here’s a synopsis of the show.
“Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. “Marvel’s Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Rosario Dawson.”(Source)
