Children of Men is by and large the best film of 2006 and one of director Alfonso Cuarón’s best films, which is saying a lot, because the man has had some hits.
In case you haven’t seen it, Children of Men is set in a dystopian future where females are unable to reproduce and the world is in chaos – a former activist teams up with the first pregnant woman in over 18 years and helps her find sanctuary from the surrounding madness.
I’ve always really enjoyed Children of Men, but youtuber Nerdwriter just helped me enjoy it even more. This video breakdown of Cuarón’s subtle use of the background and surrounding imagery within the world created on screen is brilliant. It helps shed light on areas within the film that you probably overlooked, but should be aware of.
